Here's another fine nest you've gotten me into...

August 30th, 2016

We are getting some terrific nominations for both the Paula Wilshe New Writers Award and Marian Kelly Hall of Fame awards, but we want YOURS! A number of folks have worked hard to research their choices and we are so grateful for that. Later today I hope to post a list of the current nominees to inspire others to send in their favorites. Remember, the top 10 nominees in both categories goes up for the final vote, so we need your nominations as soon as possible.

Writers, Artists, Vidders, and other creators, please NOMINATE YOURSELF!!! Often fans may have trouble remember a nominee's name until they see it and we will be posting current nominees later today. Inspire voters by nominating yourself. You deserve it for all your hard work!

Nominate now:

pwaward@sharecon.net (for Paula Wilshe)

mkaward@sharecon.net (for Marian Kelly)

Nominations close SEPTEMBER 10.

If you are thinking of coming to SHareCon or if you've had any problems with making reservations at the hotel -- I just had a long talk with the sales manager, and she assured me she would work hard to resolve any reservation issues I know some of you have had.

If you try to make reservations and are told the days you want are only available at a higher rate or are not available at all, please make the reservations anyway and we can add a day or adjust the price afterward. The sales manager can change prices and rooms once the reservation is made.

You can make reservations through a link on the con website at www.sharecon.net.

If you are thinking of coming to SHareCon but don't want to pay for your membership yet, be aware that rates go up September 2. So save some bucks and sign up now.

Even if you don't want to pay for membership now, please drop me a note and let me know you are hoping to come so I can reserve a space for you. We do have limited membership.

Also, hotel rooms are still available, so if you're planning on coming, you should reserve your hotel room now.

And lastly, if you have sent in a membership and HAVEN'T HEARD FROM ME DIRECTLY, drop me a note. I should be all caught up with registrations, so if you haven't heard from me, I might not have received it.

All the info you need about registration and the hotel can be found at www.sharecon.net.

SHareCon needs Panel Topics

Forgive the crossposting, but we're looking for as much input as we can get. We are super late in talking about panels, so what better time to start the discussion than now. We usually have between 10-13 panels at the con and topics range wildly. Some topics are slash-specific and others are general interest. Some topics are resurrected almost every year, but there are always some brand new ideas. We really want to hear YOURS. We will eventually gather all the topics suggested and post them in a poll to gauge the interest level. Here are a few that have been suggested already:

Sorry about the long radio silence on my end. Life has been pretty complicated lately. But SHareCon is around the corner, so it's time to kick it into gear. Expect to hear from me a lot this week! And the first thing we have to talk about is AWARDS! Please note: There are two specific email addresses to send your nominations. PLEASE DO NOT POST NOMINATIONS AS COMMENTS ON THIS POST. Thanks.

First: The Paula Wilshe Award for New Writers in Starsky & Hutch

But wait, there's more!

NEW: The Marian Kelly Hall of Fame Award in Starsky & Hutch

During the print zine era, the Huggy Awards were given every other year at ZebraCon. We also had the online Torino awards starting in 2000. ZebraCon ended in 2007 and the Torinos in 2008. The only award our fandom had after that was the Paula Wilshe Award.
So the intrepid (read: crazy) people who brought you the Paula Wilshe Award decided to add a new award: the Marian Kelly Hall of Fame. A Founding Mother in SH fandom, Marian had a long history of creativity that included award winning zine stories, art, and letterzine contributions. She also ran one of the earliest Writer's Workshops at Zebracon in 1980. Check out her fanlore page here.

Thanks in advance for your participation!

June 1st, 2016

I know I said registration rates for SHareCon would go up on June 2, but it turns out we're not going to be here to deal with new registrations or update the website. Sooooo... we're delaying the rate increase until next week when we'll be back at home and ready to update. That means you've got another week to register for the con at our cheapest rates. Rates will DEFINITELY go up on June 7, so strike now!

May 28th, 2016

If you are interested in attending SHareCon this year (October 14-17 in Laurel, MD), registration rates go up on June 2, so save yourself some coin and register now at the website.

If you are planning on coming to the con, but don't want to register now, please drop me a note and let me know your plans so I can "reserve" you a spot. Membership is limited so we don't overcrowd our meeting space. Have questions about the con that aren't answered somewhere on our website? Drop me a note!

Hope we'll see you there!

We have closed down registration on the Starsky & Hutch Archive to stop repeated spam attacks. Spammers join the archive to post false "reviews" on authors' stories that are lists of links leading to merchandising and malware sites. The spammers leave sometimes a hundred false reviews that I have to delete one by one. It frustrates the writers who get notified about a flush of "reviews" only to find spam. We've been searching for a solution, but are restricted by the limitations of the archive's aging software.

Legitimate users can still join the archive by contacting me directly at flamingoslim@verizon.net or sending an email to dobey@starskyhutcharchive.net. You do not have to register to read stories on the archive. You only have to register to review (comment) on a story. WE WANT YOU TO JOIN. WE WANT YOU TO LEAVE COMMENTS ON STORIES. Reviews are the only "payment" authors receive for all their hard work. But there is currently no mechanism to moderate members who join. These spam attacks have been the most frustrating and time-consuming part of archive work. Closing down registration should stop them.

We are looking for long-term solutions to the problem of our aging software. We will keep the fandom informed of any future archive changes.

You, too, can be immortalized in print!

This is how crazy we are. In an era of online-everything-instantaneously, we plan to once again produce a hard copy of the one and only official SHareCon zine. But we need contributions or we have no zine. As we did in 2014, we are accepting submissions from anyone in Starsky & Hutch fandom. Also, as we did in 2014, we will produce an ezine as well. So, we're not that crazy. (We're sane, really we are. Don't call the nice people at Cabrillo State. We don't get along well with the other patients.)

We're looking for a few (dozen) fiction writers (slash, gen, or both if you can swing it), essayists, artists, poets, pundits, puzzlers, punsters, limerick-ers, cartoonists, trivia addicts, drabblers, humorists, quoters, or any other -ist or -ers that have to do with our boys. If you've got more than one idea, send them along; multiple submissions are welcome. Feel free to cross the streams, er, universes. Crossovers are welcome as long our boys, Starsky and Hutch, are the main focus. The zine should represent a snapshot of the fandom today. We want it to be as welcoming as possible.

Submission details here...Collapse )
Your friendly (and not yet hassled but give us time) con zine producers,

Cyanne and Flamingo

March 22nd, 2016

It's a SHareCon year and, of course, there's a lot of planning going on -- for the zine, the panels, the games, and all the fun stuff. (If you're not familiar with SHareCon, our Starsky and Hutch slash con, please check out our website link.) But things have changed over the years for SHareCon. Once, we only had to send announcements to an email discussion list to reach the fandom. Today, the fandom is still out there, maybe in greater numbers than ever. But the trick is finding them in such a fragmented landscape. These days, we're sending announcements to 10 to 13 different social media platforms. So, to get a better view of the fandom, we came up with two simple surveys. They're free, anonymous, and uncomplicated. No one will contact you or harvest your email address. It's just a way for us to get an idea of what's going on in the fandom to help us make SHareCon a great fan experience. If you consider yourself a Starsky and Hutch fan in any capacity, I hope you'll take a few minutes to answer these two simple surveys. Thanks!
