I'm way behind on reporting in on my trip to Michigan to the fun-filled Cabrillo Con that I attended back in August. (Man, I am WAY late, even for me.) Cabrillo Con is a Gen SH con that is held every other year (opposite the years we have SHareCon) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. For those of us who attend Media West over Memorial Day in Lansing Michigan, Grand Rapids is about an hour away. I'd never been to Grand Rapids, despite going to Media West for a long time, and I must say, the parts of it I saw were lovely.Read more... )

Our SH get-together was the first in the 50-State-International Get Together. We planned an SH day (which was more like an SH weekend) at Suzan's house in Stafford Va. Cyanne and I arrived at Suzan's Friday evening and spent the evening discussing website and archive designs and working out some archive issues. I've written a short (especially for me!) story for the Gen con's zine and solicited Cyanne's and Suzan's opinions -- yes, you read that right. I wrote a gen story. Reaction was Read more... )

I'm posting this for Keri. You can find the original post at her lj: http://keri1006.livejournal.com/

Hello Starsky and Hutch fans,

I had an idea that so far is going over well so I'm taking it global.

Everyone who has been to a con or has gotten together with fans in other venues knows there's just nothing to compare with being able to watch eps and vids together, ooh and ah over art, trade zines back and forth, and just glory in SH talk until you're hoarse. Cons only come around once a year, if we're lucky, and traveling and hotels and all of that can be out of reach for many, so what about a local one-day open house party in every state we can get a host and guests lined up for?

Just let me know if you'd be willing to host, I'll start a spreadsheet, and then we'll see who in your area could attend. I'm doing Texas, so Texans, consider yourself invited! Dates and details to follow:)

So, that's how it would work, a great fun house party and maybe we could share the details of each party after it happens.

A whole day of Starsky and Hutch love. Nothing could be finer.

Who's in?

If you don't know what podfic is it might be because there hasn't been any in Starsky and Hutch. Podfic is fanfiction read aloud in formats that can be heard over IPods or any device that can play soundfiles, including your computer. You download podfic the same way you download other files. Many fans listen to podfic in their cars during commutes or on their IPods and other mp3 players instead of music. People who regularly listen to podfic will download stories in fandoms they're not familiar with and discover new fandoms. Podfic usually tells listeners where they can find the original story and many podfic fans will look up those stories and meet new writers and find new archives.

Starsky and Hutch has not been able to take advantage of this new media until <drum roll please!> right now! There are now 4 new podfics uploaded to the Starsky & Hutch archive.

"Did I Tell You" by CC, read by Morgan Logan
"Pickles" by Morgan Logan, read by Flamingo
"Blue" by Morgan Logan, read by Flamingo
"The Last Charade" (in two parts) by Rosemary, read by Flamingo

You can find this, the first podfic files in S&H, at the Starsky and Hutch archive on the Media page at:
http://starskyhutcharchive.com/media.php?genre=slash

If you're unsure how you might feel about "Starsky & Hutch radio," give it a listen and see what you think. Both "Pickles" and "Did I Tell You" are short fun stories. Take 'em for a test drive!

More stories are in production. If you think you'd like to hear more podfic in our fandom, we need more readers! It's not hard to do. I'd love to talk to anyone who would like to join us.

It's not too late to order a supporting membership package for SHareCon 2008. The package contains the con zine, the complete 2008 zine story listing compiled by SHaron, a nifty tote bag and other goodies. The money helps support the con. The price of the package includes postage--such a bargain!  Contact me at flamingoslim@erols.com for more info.

The SHareCon Art Show and Print Shop

SHareCon is a Starsky & Hutch slash con held every 2 years in Laurel, Maryland.  This year it will be held on August 22, 23, and 24.  SHareCon has a dealers' room, art show, and a full roster of panels and games, all focused on Starsky & Hutch.  Suzan Lovett has once again graciously offered to run the art show.  If you have SH art or prints you're interested in selling or in REselling, contact Suzan at artshow@sharecon.org for details.

We accept any Starsky & Hutch art pieces for the art show, including original art, limited prints, hand-drawn and computer generated art, crafts and art RESALES, so if you have some classic S&H art that you're thinking of parting with, drop a note to artshow@sharecon.org and ask for details.

We can accept art by mail. We will also have a print shop set up and will accept S&H prints for sale by mail. The Con is only charging a 5% fee on sales.

Art show/print shop rules and details can be found at: http://www.sharecon.org/index.php?page=artshow

Any questions, please email artshow@sharecon.org or contact Flamingo.

SHareCon Panel Poll

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
If you are even thinking about coming to SHareCon, then we need to know what panels you're interested in.

Please go to the SHareCon Panel Poll and vote for your favorite panels. You can vote for as many as you want.

Let us know!
SHareCon, a Starsky & Hutch slash con held every 2 years in Maryland, has always had a vibrant vid show that includes historical (tape) vids, fan favorites, and premiering vids.  Vids are shown on a large screen through a projection system with a 4-speaker stereo system.  This year, we hope to have the con vids available on DVD.

Anyone can submit any SH vid to the con.  You do not have to be an attending or supporting member.  Vids do not have to be premiering vids, but if they are, we'll make a fuss about them!  If you want to send a premiering vid, we ask you to please refrain from posting it on the web until Monday, August 24.

Thanks for the SHareCon head count, folks. It really has given me a good view of what to expect, membership wise.

As I suspected, (and as happened in 2006) we're not going to have enough membership to pay the bills. (Though we'll have more than enough folks to have a great time!) Most cons are hurting these last two years with lower attendance thanks to our economy, gas prices, and a general lack of disposable income among the populace.

We're thinking of trying some creative fundraising to pad the purse. (Debtor's prison is so uncomfortable...) Last year the SHareCon auction (that takes place at the con) had to be split between PAF and the con (when formerly it all went to PAF). But we're going to need some operational funds ahead of time.

Rosemary has suggested a fannish auction to help raise money. She's willing to offer an SH story written to the winning bidder's specifications (within certain restrictions) that would be theirs exclusively for a specific period of time (I think a year, not positive). I'm not sure how I feel about this. I know some charities have had some luck with this, but we're a small fandom, and this is for a con. Another fan suggested that we open the offerings fandom-wise, since we know some of our attendees are currently more active in other fandoms, and might be hesitant to offer up something in SH, but would be willing to offer up something in another fandom. Ro and I have been thinking mostly stories, art, vids, fan art...

We've just been tossing this around the kitchen table, and lately it's been a circular argument -- should we? Would anyone be interested in offering things? Would anyone be interested in buying these things? Would it help?

So, I think it's time to open it up to the rest of you. We could really use some input on this issue. If you see this notice posted on a list you normally post to, you can respond there. If you're more comfortable posting here, be my guest. Or you can respond to me personally at flamingoslim@erols.com.

thanks

Hey, guys,

don't lose patience. There's lots going on behind the scenes for SHareCon, which is not much fun for those of you not directly involved in the initial planning stages.  Some of the things we're discussing are the luau, the vid show, the auction, the dealers room, the games...all that stuff.
The one thing we don't know, which makes it hard to plan, is...how many of you are actually hoping to come. We don't know what membership will cost yet, but I'm hoping it won't be much more expensive than last time, and I hope the hotel will keep the room fees around the same. I'm pushing them on that.

I don't need positive commitments, but if you're hoping to come, can I see a raise of hands? It makes a big difference if we're going to have 50-75 or 100 (or 40...or 30...)

I have a really bad habit of forgetting to delete my polls, but this one is definitely closed. The SHareCon dates are officially August 22-24, 2008.  If you are interested in having a fun weekend with us, please consider joining the SHareCon mailing list. We'll soon be in active discussions about what will take place at SHareCon, and we can't do that without your input. To join the list go to:

So, this is livejournal, huh? Needs a paint job. A nice fresh coat of pink should liven up the place. And art. Definitely needs some Starsky & Hutch art. Guess I'll have to move some of my Suzan and Lorraine art over. And that 6-foot poster of the butt-pinch picture would fill up that blank wall nicely. A few ceramic flamingos would help, too. But I hear there are semi-regular power outages, so I'd better go get some of the heavy duty surge protectors, the ones with battery backup. Nothing worse than a power outage in the middle of vidding or writing.

Still...that hollow echo is kinda creepy... Next time I think I'll bring the dogs...
