The Awards Committee

April 17th, 2019

It is time to start thinking about your nominations for your favorite new and established writers, artists, vidder, stories or other writings, art, and vids. Yes, it is time to nominate for both the Paula Wilshe Award for New Writers in Starsky and Hutch, and for the Marian Kelly Hall of Fame Awards in SH.

We've set up a new post that explains who these wonderful fans were and why these awards were named for them. The post also has all the details you need to be able to nominate any person or work you'd like to recognize for all the pleasure these creators give us all year.

Our creative folk spend countless hours crafting stories and poem, art, and vids for very little recognition. This is our chance to let them know we fans really appreciate their efforts in keeping our fandom alive and vibrant. We need your nominations and participation to make these awards work!

You can find all the relevant links and information here:

Remember, these awards are open to all genres.

Please join us on May 18th at Brookside Gardens, Maryland, at 11:30 am, for Ro's Celebration of Life. The event is indoors. You can find details about the event and a link for the gardens at http://ourlakehouse.net/rememberingro/.

We'd especially appreciate it if you could post memories of Ro on our remembrance page. We're hoping to produce a memory book for the event, but we can't do that without your input. I'll have to approve your posting (this helps us defeat spammers), so it may not appear instantly, but I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Please email me at kathleen.omalley@verizon.net if you plan to attend. If you would like a hard copy invitation, drop me a note with your name and address. If you'd rather send a memory directly for me to include in the book rather than post it online, that's fine, too.

Whether you can attend the Celebration or not, please visit the page and leave a memory about Ro. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Here it is, the final door of the Advent Calendar. We have five fabulous gifts to finish out the calendar thanks to Elves Keri T, m.butterfly, T.M.Productions, Mortmere, and Suzan.

It's been an amazing Calendar. My rough count says we enjoyed 27 stories, 13 pieces of art, 1 craft, 6 puzzles, 3 poems, 5 vids, and 2 story lists, and we have all of you to thank for it, for your contributions, your stories, your art, your poems, your fun games, your vids, your puzzles, and especially for all your comments. (We're at 990 comments, and I'm sure our last day will pass 1,000 easily.)  Your participation has been astounding and very rewarding. All of us here at AC headquarters want you to know how much we appreciate your enthusiasm. It's been wonderful.

All of us wish all of you a wonderful holiday however you celebrate it.

Fortunately, the technical difficulties we experienced earlier have been corrected, and the Advent Calendar is open for business. Good thing, too, since we are so close to Christmas I can hear the reindeer bells jingling. I know it's almost Christmas because our brandy new Christmas tree is standing, perfectly straight, in my living room bay window in all its sparkly glory with lights that have 9, count 'em, 9 functions, morphing from multicolored to white with just the touch of the foot pedal. Modern technology! Maybe we'll even decorate it tomorrow! Don't ask what the Las Vegas odds are on that happening. At least my neighbors' houses are beautifully decorated and every night we enjoy the drama of whether the inflatable Santa will be the first to collapse or will the Snowman couple fail first. This is what passes for excitement in Beltsville.

Fortunately, the elves of the Advent Calendar still have lots of exciting stuff for you. Today's four gifts are from Elves Verlaine, Sagitta, Jat Sapphire, and Suzan. And for those of you commenting so faithfully, you should know we are over 900 comments with two days to go! That's a gift to all our hardworking elves. Thanks!

It's not you, it's us. We're working on it. Thanks for your patience.

This close to Christmas, everyone's juggling: shopping with wrapping, lists upon lists, groceries for holiday meals, shopping and cooking for everyday meals. Invariably, we spend the week before Christmas doing carryout because there isn't time for anything else. I'm sure many of the elves of the Advent Calendar are just as busy and yet they keep turning out such amazing gifts. Like today's. Elves Kat-byrd, Wightfaerie, and our own Cyanne have some unique surprises for us. Thanks for all your efforts!

And for all of you taking time out of your busy days to write comments to our creators, many many thanks. We've hit 860 comments! That's a whole lot of applause. Thank you so so much!

Four. More. Days. We are truly in the homestretch now. And on this day 21 of the Advent Calendar, we have four different gifts for you from our hard-working, talented elves. We can thank Elves SHaron, Verlaine, Chocolate Egg, and a very special collective group of Elves. Now that's a cluster of talent to get any SH fan excited. Enjoy!

December 20th, 2018

The Advent Calendar has just gone over 750 comments, folks!!! Pat yourselves on the back. I know all the creative elves really appreciate it and those of us putting the Advent Calendar together do too. Today we have four lovely gifts thanks to Elves Wightfaerie, Dawnwind, Garrideb, and uh... me. I know you'll just love them.

I also want to take this chance to remind everyone that the organization and physical construction of the Advent Calendar itself, including the construction of every individual gift page, all the landing pages, and every viable link is due to Cyanne's WordPress wizardry, and all the wonderful graphics, including the backgrounds, banners, and Calendar homepage were donated by Suzan. I was afraid I'd forget to mention it as the Calendar pages draw close to the end. Yeah, and I'm still trying to get my shopping started! I'm such an underachiever!

Our elves have been so busy this year! Today we have four special gifts on the Advent Calendar thanks to Elves Verlaine, ksstarfire, jat_sapphire, and Monica, Jen, and Rachel. Drooling, aren't you? And what could be better after a hard day of Christmas shopping than four delicious morsels just for you? Only 5 more days! Enjoy them!
