Flamingo and the Con Committee

February 4th, 2018

As we make plans for SHareCon 2018, we need your input. We often ask the membership for panel ideas, episode suggestions, favorite vids, and other input. Now, we're asking your input on how best to communicate with the membership, your interest in the registration package, and other issues. If you have any interest in SHareCon at all, whether or not you think you might attend, please fill out the brief poll we've set up. Besides a few direct questions, the poll also gives you an opportunity to provide other feedback. We do ask for a fannish name and email address, but this information will not be published or shared and can only be seen by those of us tabulating the poll results.

You can find the poll at:

http://sharecon.net/limesurvey/index.php/survey/index/sid/945683/newtest/Y/lang/en

The asterisk (*) indicates a mandatory question. Thanks in advance for participating.

The poll will expire in a week, on Sunday, February 11th at 1159pm EST.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our hotel poll. And apologies for forgetting to post the deadline. My bad! We will be holding the con at the Homewood Suites. Homewood received more than two thirds of the vote. As soon as I get the papers signed, the hotel will give us a website link to reserve rooms. We'll be posting more details in the next few days. Start thinking up panel ideas!!!

SHareCon Poll Deadline

Share
Newyear

I failed to mention in the lengthy postI sent out yesterday, that the poll will only be open until Monday at 9:30 AM eastern time. So, if you're interested in attending SHareCon, please take the poll!

If you are considering coming to SHareCon, please follow the link to answer a quick poll on these two options.

1. The DoubleTree Hotel for the cheaper room rate, the choice of rooms with two beds, a more private meeting space, the ability to enjoy con activities later at night, the onsite restaurant, and the option to bring my pet. I understand the hotel shuttle does not go to the airport, that breakfast is not free, that other food options may be limited or more expensive, and that I might not have a refrigerator in my room.

2. The Homewood Suites for the free breakfast, airport shuttle, spacious suites, and cheaper food options. I understand I will pay more for rooms, that I might not be able to get a room with two beds, that no pets are allowed, and that the official con space will have to shut down at 11:30pm.
The poll also has a place where you can leave an optional comment if you'd like.

Apologies for cross posting, but this information is critical. If you have any interest in attending SHareCon 2018. Please read to the end so you can participate in a poll.
___________
We've been hosting SHareCon every other year since 2000, so we're used to negotiating with hotels. This will be our 10th con. We always try to get the best deal we can. We consider our best logistics, transportation, and food costs. This year, the choices haven't been clear cut, so we need your input. After talking to 25 different hotels, we are considering two (in alphabetical order):

Finally, it's time to open the very last door of the Advent Calendar! And Elves D.P. Patricks, Wightfaerie, and Suzan have crafted three wonderful gifts to bring our calendar to an amazing close for this year. But that doesn't mean the Calendar is over. All the stories, the poems, the vids, the puzzles, the podfic, the podcasts, the art -- oh, the art! -- will continue to be available for all to enjoy!

Special thanks to Suzan who designed the graphics and created the main page art (and other gifts), and Cyanne who creates the calendar's structure, installs the graphics, and keeps the whole thing running smoothly.

We have surpassed a thousand comments, and are still counting. The fandom's collective participation this year has been overwhelming. Thanks to everyone who created gifts, sent comments, and worked with us to make such a memorable Advent Calendar.

To everyone in SH fandom, have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year!

Wow. This is the next-to-the-last Advent Calendar door. All the elves at the Advent Calendar workshop are so focused on making sure there are enough gifts and that the gifts are all presented as their creators intended, and that we get everything posted on time that when it starts to wind down… we're not really sure what to do with ourselves. I got a little Christmas shopping done today. I mean, it's not last minute or anything. There are two more days, right? But once that's done then…?

I know! We can start planning SHareCon 2018! Yeah! Just watch this space.

Today's trio of lovely gifts are brought to you by Elves Wanda Horvath, Hardboiledbaby, and m. butterfly. And we have now officially surpassed 1,000 comments!!! Take a bow everyone!
We are so close to Christmas I can hear the reindeer bells jingling. I know it's almost Christmas because the famous leaning Christmas tree of Beltsville is standing -- crookedly -- in my living room in all its cockeyed glory. My neighbors' houses are beautifully decorated and in my bay window stands our lopsided tree. Well, like we always say, nothing in this house is straight! Not even the Christmas tree.

Fortunately, the elves of the Advent Calendar are true crafters. Today's gifts are from the hard working Wightfaerie and D. P. Patricks. And for those of you commenting so faithfully, you should know we are over 900 comments with two days to go! That's a gift to all our hardworking elves. Thanks!

This close to Christmas, everyone's juggling: shopping with wrapping, lists upon lists, groceries for holiday meals, shopping and cooking for everyday meals. Invariably, we spend the week before Christmas doing carryout because there isn't time for anything else. This year, with our last minute move, carryout has been a two-week affair. I'm sure many of the elves of the Advent Calendar are just as busy and yet they keep turning out such amazing gifts. Like today's. Elves TSilvy, Garriedeb, and Mvernet have some unique surprises for us. Thanks for all your efforts!

We're down to the last 5 doors of the Advent Calendar. And the last 5 shopping days of Christmas. Is it too late to order online? Don't answer that. I just realized all my wrapping paper is at the old house…

There may only 5 doors left, but the elves are working overtime to make them good ones. Many thanks to Terri (aka ‘Celeste’) and Dawnwind for tonight's gifts. We have received over 800 comments! That's incredible. Thanks to everyone who participated.
